UFO

The trail of flame burnt through the night sky, a silver ball, shrouded by the angry inferno, barely visible.

Those gathered gasped as the craft abruptly flipped, seemingly on its side, revealing a jet black spherical shape.

These are the sights a growing band of UFO spotters have been treated to over the last few weeks. And on a cold Tuesday night I joined them.

Logic tells us we’re not experiencing a Close Encounter of the Third Kind - despite a plethora of X File sightings in recent weeks.

We, at The Post, don’t believe in UFOs.

But take a close look at this picture, taken this week, and tell us what the hell is up there.

The object - a burning trail in the sky - moved from the direction of Pye Green tower, arced, then disappeared, the flames suddenly extinguishing.

Thomas Zachariou first witnessed the weird light show six weeks ago. Since then there have been a number of ‘visits’.

The 35-year-old said: “The first time, the silver balls were clustered together. They reminded me of jelly fish - then they all separated.

“I have never, ever seen anything like this. Last week, it was there for three minutes. All we could see was glowing light, then the light went off and you could see the black base. It went sideways.”

Experts have blamed the spate of sightings on Chinese lanterns. Those who gather near the Pye Green fish bar, some armed with binoculars and telescopes, are adamant they’re watching something a lot more exciting than Oriental decorations.

Chip shop owner Zak Zachariou, who witnessed the fire in the sky last Wednesday, remains sceptical over alien spacecraft. He knows, however, he’s seen something that cannot be explained. “I saw a UFO, I didn’t see a UFO from another planet, but I saw a UFO.”

His theory is backed by prominent Chase astronomer John Armitage. He told The Post: “There are a number of Yankee black projects they don’t let you know about - crafts that have capabilities that you wouldn’t know about. Because you see something with unusual properties, it doesn’t mean it has to be alien.”

Last word from Rosehill resident Donna Maddox, 31, who is among the watchers. “I didn’t believe in UFOs,” she told The Post, “but I do now.”

Not so much as aliens as experiments that we the mere mortals know nothing about.

where I used to live we had "strange" activity in the sky most nights but as I was quite close to a remote RAF station not much notice was taken.

Nature can do some things that seem strange to us but perfectly normal to her.

It sure can, last night both me and Gabbies daughter saw a "UFO" outside our house have no other way to describe it other then bulb shaped, dark grey in colour, with a bright reddish/golden light towards the bottom end of the bulb. It was travelling fast until it went straight up and zig-zaged back down then it slower moved off. The change in speed was wiked I was well shocked!

sorry to say that time of night the curtains are closed in-front of the computer so wouldn't have seen it.
Does seem to be a lot of activity now in the local area though!
