For years now there have been reports of these cats roaming round the countryside, some people believe they exist some don't believe. As for myself I'm a firm believer in them, I have joined some websites to read up on the sightings and have even had a sighting myself (You'll find more on that in another article).
There seems to be a lot of activity now and more sightings being reported all the time, the evidence though is proving harder to get even though sightings are going up. I believe that as time is going on the Big Cats are getting used to our habits and altering their own to compensate, hence the problem getting solid evidence. We do have to remember that these Big Cats are hunters and experts at moving in cover and keeping themselves from being seen.
I have spent many hours in the daylight and early evenings looking for signs and just tracking the wild deer that lived in our local forest hoping to see the cat take one for a meal. I've also spent time looking from vantage points too, just incase I can get a good picture/video of a Big Cat. Due to major changes in my life I have been unable for the last couple of years to get out and continue my pastime of hunting for evidence. That doesn't mean I've lost interest just means a change of approach is required!
I'm eager to get back into looking for evidence as it would also benefit my health to be out and about, but rather then go on my own I would rather be out in a small group doing it. If looked for local groups into this but can't find any which does surprise me. If you know of a group then please let me have the details so I can contact them!
I did once contact a National Group about starting a group in the area and they suggested to me that too many people looking for "Big Cats" might scare them away from feeding in one area to often or worse could cause someone to actually hunt the animals down for "fame & fortune". Why they think this way is beyond me as anyone seeking fame and fortune is going to go looking for them anyway regardless of its in a group or a hunting trip.
As for myself and this hopefully goes for the true "Big Cat Enthusiasts", I just want to get photographic evidence and maybe the bones/carcass of a big cat that died under natural causes, so we can prove once and for all that these animals do exist and put to rest the myths that are now growing from the lack of evidence.
As for me, personally I will still keep an eye out for the elusive Big Cat as sooner or later it will show itself and as I get back to my old routine in this area I'll hopefully come across more information and sightings again. There has been many sightings so far in 2010 in the local area and I have very high hopes that there might be more then one Big Cat here and that they are having to go further afield to find food.
If anyone else is interested in joining myself or just fancy's a chat about their sightings then please join my Forum as I have started a section that relates to Big Cat sightings and would love it if more people who are interested in them would join or please use my Contact form HERE to send me a message.
