A few years later when I had moved into my own place and got married I lived a lot closer to Cannock chase and we had got ourselves a pet dog this meant of course that said Dog needed walking! As we lived close to Cannock Chase I started taking the dog walking over there.

I had heard from various people that the Forestry Commission was covering up facts about Deer being killed over the Chase. I'm assuming this was do to with poaching or "Big Cats" I doubt we will ever know as asking the Forestry Commission just gets a blank look and a "no such thing going on" comment, which is to be expected as either of those things would cause loss in revenue and they wouldn't want that.
I had heard that Rangers were finding Deer that had been mauled and partially eaten, not a surprise really as there was at least one "Big Cat" that I had seen myself. Again enquires got nowhere with the Forestry Commission. Let's face it they were never going to say that Deer were being mauled as that would mean something was loose and dangerous on the Chase.

Many times as my dog and I was walking over the Chase the dog would refuse to go down certain trails and sections of the Chase, this often meant we had to take detours around areas to get back to the car. The dog was friendly and got on well with other dogs and people. He wouldn't even bother if we was close to Deer he would wait for me to catch him up before moving off. This suggested to me the dog was either scared of something or was protecting me by not putting me in harms way.

Now there can't be much to scare a dog. So the question would be how many dogs would be scared of a big cat? That was the question that always came to me every time the dog refused to go down a path. It was quite scary sometimes when we had wandered a fair distance and it was going dusk.

I never saw anything but a few times I could see bushes and smaller tress swaying as if they had been knocked by something. I had also heard a few low level "coughs" in a deep voice.
