Here is a small sample of the multi-player games we play! We utilize a Teamspeak for in game voice communication, this makes it more friendly game as it gives us a chance to chat during game play. We have also started to develop our own small modifications and maps for various games we play. This has proved an interesting twist to our games as we can tailor the games to defeat us at our strongest points. So we end up trying different tactics. Making our own maps and modifications has been difficult as both myself and HornedRat don't have an programming knowledge!
Arma 2 is a recent addition to the games we play it is a first person tactical shooter. It is a very involved game and very realistic. There is a lot of modifications for it that improve basic game play. It makes the impressive game play even better. Making maps is also fun as there is the ability to make every group of enemy's random and have them patrol in random directions.
Rfactor has to be the best car racing simulation out there. It has all the great features of a quick race mode, combined with a proper race weekend section. There is lots of different custom tracks and cars to download, with such variety that us as a team have barely scratched the surface of the custom extras. You are even able to monitor your race settings and then get a graphic interface of them to see where you are going wrong. If you haven't got this game then get it, you will not be disappointed!
Sins of a Solar Empire is a third person space aged strategy game there are 3 races to choose from and a varied amount of ships for each to use. You are expected to colonise new planets to gain more resources to be able to conque the whole of the map. Maps vary in size from really small to massive. We had one game that lasted for almost 80 game hours! There are 2 expension packs for this game and both bring new features for the game. If you like large space battles then this is the game for you.
Dawn Of War/Addons & Dawn Of War 2. The leading real time strategy on the planet based on the warhammer 40k universe. Both HornedRat and myself utilize the Space Marines however the application is normally very different! I myself go for a defensible plan first, while HornedRat's love of terminators and land raiders gives an offensive slant this combination is utilized devastatingly in 2 verses any number maps. Although a wide variety of maps are played the preference is for a nice defend the building then assault map. In later months I have took to playing as the Imperial Guard, as we have been utilizing a modification that allowed for greater fire-power for the Imperial Guard this lead to a very high percentage of wins verses the computer on any difficulty level.
Guild Wars Nightfall is a first person sword and sorcery style roleplaying game. To play multi-player however requires an account and signing into the servers all the time. Every section you go to required a download of data to enable you to play. This put us off slightly as we used to get drop outs and ended up on different servers.
HornedRat and myself had a go at playing this for a few months and even got as far as creating our own guild inside the game. In a change of pace here I went on the offensive with a mean broody fighter style character, while HornedRat showed his softer style playing as a ranger/monk healing us and providing long range fire!
Rainbow Six - All versions - A tactical shooter, first person shooter. This is one of the best shooting games by far, the only let down is the fact we have played it that often we have mastered 99% of the levels. I take on the role of close first support often opting to carry a LMG for brute fire-power, backed up by an SMG for CQB fire-fights. HornedRat is normally found sniping or placing a sneaky grenade on an unfortunate enemy, his weapons of choice are often a sniper rifle or scoped assault rifle, again backed up with an SMG for the CQB fire-fights.
A hugely popular and successful on-line game hosted and run by Everbong, it is a very active game that you can play every 15 minutes, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can play it on your own but by joining a group you receive benefits to your army/resources. It is a very involved game and takes many attempts to perfect it. Each "round" is totally different so you never know what is going to happen.
Battlefield 2 is a first person shooting game. It involves 2 teams and a shoot-out to see who can score the most kills. It has loads of custom maps and games can be structured to suit most people. HornedRat loves to be a sniper on this map providing long range support with accuracy. I personally often play as special forces bring to bear my close in fighting.
NeverWinter Nights is an older game that is a character based RPG, while not having fancy graphics it does have a decent story line and lots of playability. In this both HornedRat and myself took a more "in your face" fighting approach which did cause some problems but overall was really good fun to play!
