Warhammer 40,000 Imperial Guard Army
I first got interested in Warhammer 40,000 back in school when some of the lads I hung around with used to collect the models and play the game. I started of collecting a small "Squat" army, as with anything else school exams and then starting work took over and I had to let this hobby drop. It was during this time that Games Workshop phased the Squats out of the game. When I finally got back into the game in 2006 it was a shock to find I needed to find myself a new Race to start collecting.
So there I was faced with picking a new race to collect, what a choice I had, there is now 3 new races to pick from. The list below shows the choices I had
- Imperial Guard
- Space Marines
- Chaos
- The Eldar
- Dark Eldar
- Orks
- Necrons
- Tau
- Tyranids
As the race of humans is considered "good" while the other races to are considered "bad" to different degrees, I decided it would have to be one of the human army's I went for. This left me with a choice of either "Space Marines" or "Imperial Guard", as the "Space Marines" are the most popular choice out of the two I went for the lesser chosen race of "Imperial Guard". The Imperial Guard is made up of different regiments from all the different planets of the Imperium, this meant I was able to pick whatever name and colours I wanted for my regiment.
I decided against using just one type of infantry model and instead decided to have a mixed regiment almost like a regiment that was made up of parts of regiments that had sustained terrible loses. This appeals to my sense of how things would be in many army's of the Imperial Guard as they are used as the cannon fodder and their life's are worth nothing to their commanders. I haven't thought of a proper name yet for my regiment or even a proper colour scheme, I have painted some figures already but they don't look that good, I'm hoping in time I'll get better at painting the models.
So we move on to the models I have bought and how I decided to structure my regiment. I opted to split the army in to roughly a 60/40 split between standard troopers (Cadian) and Jungle Fighters (Catachan) mixed into this is going to be a good armour section, mainly because the Imperial Guard use Armour to even the odds as the standard guardsman isn't that tough. I also like the Armour models and think they look really good as a rear line when showing off the models. There is roughly 4 different types of Armour I can field and I'll go into them on a different page to make life easier.
As I'm looking to make life easier I have broken down my Army into different components to talk about. Using the submenu on the left you can see the different pages I have got on the different sections. I'm hoping you'll read through them to get a feel for how I have setup my army and intend to field it. i will also be including images on the pages of my actual units so you can see how I have painted them (or not painted them yet) and have a laugh at my rubbish painting skills. If you follow this Link Here it will take you to the Imperial Guard section of my gallery where I keep the images of my different units
